After nearly two decades of thrills, roller coasters, go-karts and water rides in the heart of Seguin, ZDT’s Amusement Park took its final ride this weekend. But an extreme new adventure is already looking to take shape in the former thrill zone.

ZDT officially said farewell on Sunday, August 17, but locals did not have to wait long to find out what would happen to the longtime amusement park. Just one day later, Seguin natives Misti and Ben Guenther — owners of the Jungle Jam indoor playground in New Braunfels — wasted no time announcing their business would expand into ZDT's old space, with the new Jungle Jam Xtreme set to open by October, the couple shared with the Seguin Gazette.

"We’re bringing the fun right to the heart of Seguin," the Guenther's wrote on Facebook. "This new adventure will give older kids & families a place to grow with us, play bigger, and experience Jungle Jam like never before."

The announcement quickly caught fire online, as locals shared their excitement that the longtime amusement park won’t be lost to time.

"So excited! We need something like this in Seguin!" Facebook user Kellsie Barnard commented.

Erin York also added, "I’m so happy the old ZDT’s isn’t going to waste and y’all are growing!"

Even Sarah Donhauser, one of the former ZDT’s owners, chimed in saying, "We are so excited that a piece of ZDT’s will live on! Can’t wait to play here with our grandchildren!"

Jungle Jam Xtreme will take over part of the original ZDT’s indoor space and bring with it a towering five-level playground, foam air cannons, an indoor bouncy obstacle course and arcade games, according to the Seguin Gazette. It's all designed to be a larger, more adrenaline-pumping version of their original Jungle Jam location in New Braunfels.

"We’ve been trying to bring Jungle Jam to Seguin for five years since we had one in New Braunfels," Misti Guenther told The Seguin Gazette. "We couldn’t find the right location and, honestly, didn’t want to compete against ZDT’s. We get to continue their family legacy and bring our family back to Seguin."

The Guenthers first launched Jungle Jam in early 2020, just a month before COVID-19 shut everything down. After a six-month pause, their New Braunfels indoor play center rebounded and grew into a staple for local families. Now they plan to continue that tradition of family fun, just with a new, Xtreme twist.

(Seguin) — Thousands are again expected to line their chairs along South Austin Street for one of Seguin’s most cherished traditions — the Biggest Small-Town 4th of July Parade in Texas. The parade is set for 10 a.m. Friday, July 4.

Serving as the 2025 Grand Marshal will be the Wilson Pottery Foundation. Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen says this group is deeply rooted in Texas history and will serve as a powerful nod to local heritage.

“I am honored to name the Wilson Pottery Foundation as the grand marshal of Seguin’s 2025 Biggest Small-Town 4th of July Parade,” said Dodgen. “As one of the first African American-owned businesses in Texas, their work preserving the history and legacy of the Wilson family has been vital to Seguin’s cultural identity. The foundation’s commitment to educating future generations while honoring our shared past makes them a powerful symbol of freedom, resilience and community.”

Excited about this year’s event is Blair Friar, Main Street and CVB director. Friar says this year’s parade promises a colorful and festive display of floats, bands, classic cars, civic groups, and community spirit.

“This year, we are excited to have over 160 parade entries,” said. “We have great sized floats – all of our favorites as well as some new groups, so we are really excited to kick that off on Friday. The parade will run south on Austin Street. It will start at College Street and go all the way down to the Seguin Coliseum.”

Although the parade is fun, Friar also asks that the public be mindful of the route and help keep the area safe and clean for everyone.

“The one thing we encourage highly is that at the end of the parade, you do pick up your chairs, pick up any tape or any rope that is out,” said Friar. “Again, just leave the parks and the sidewalks how you found them because we do have wonderful events continuing throughout the whole weekend, so we want to make sure everyone is cleaned up and ready for the next event.”

This year’s parade route will travel down Austin Street beginning at East College and ending on Nelda Street. Kicking off the morning will be the annual Flag Raising Ceremony at 9 a.m. in Central Park.

Among the events that will be continuing the city’s celebration the next day will be the KWED Freedom Fiesta. Freedom Fiesta will host a wide variety of events including live music, food, bouncy houses, the Kiddie Parade, a 9 p.m. Glow Up Dance Party, vendors, face painting, balloon artists, hair braiding and much more.
