Boerne's little league baseball team is going dancing; fans, getting a front-row seat to wish them well ahead of their last practice at home Thursday before they hit the road to Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

"It's insane knowing that after a few years this is happening again with Boerne and just with all of us as a small town it's really happy and just exciting," one fan said.

"It's great to have a team that does so well and coaches that coach them so well," another added.

Police escorted the team through the heart of downtown on Main St. It's fairytale, but a court battle earlier this week threatened to take it all away.

"I think they showed a lot of character in ignoring what was happening and doing what they needed to do."

Boerne punched its ticket to the Little League World Series while in Waco on Monday, or so they thought.

Tulsa's team filed a temporary restraining order, potentially forcing the team to play another game if upheld. A judge quickly cutting that short after Tulsa was found as having ineligible player.

Both fans and families are now moving past that and looking ahead to what they want to happen next.

"Seeing Boerne win. Seeing them compete good. Boerne on top," a group of boys said.

The team is riding the high all the way to Williamsport — while repping for the Southwest region and the Texas Hill Country.

BOERNE, Texas - The Boerne Little League All-Stars fell to the team from Tacoma, Washington, 4-3.

But it's not over. They can still get to the championship by winning all their games in the losers bracket.

Boerne’s Little League World Series opener came down to the final inning, with the hometown team threatening to rally after trailing Tacoma, Washington, by a run.

Boerne played from behind from the first inning and entered the final inning down one. The team loaded the bases with nobody out, but Tacoma twice made force outs at home to prevent the tying run from scoring. Boerne still had a chance to bring in runs, but ultimately lost the opener.

Back in Boerne, fans packed watch parties across town to cheer on the team as it played this week in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. One of those gatherings was at Free Roam Brewery, where supporters watched Boerne face Tacoma in the team’s first game of the Little League World Series.

“There are no words that can describe it to have the name of Boerne spoken all throughout the world,” said Tia Flournoy, vice president of Boerne Little League.

Boerne’s appearance in Williamsport marks the program’s second trip to the Little League World Series in three years.

“Not only this watch party but the parades, the send-offs- everything has been just really overwhelming,” Flournoy said.

Coach Brent Holmes, who trains the team in strength and agility, said the excitement has been building throughout the community.

“Whether it's in here training or you're at the Valero getting a cup of coffee or some gas, you can just feel the excitement,” Holmes said.

Despite the loss, Boerne’s tournament run will continue. The Little League World Series uses a double-elimination format, meaning Boerne will play at least one more game. The team’s next opponent had not been announced.

It may still be summer in the Texas Hill Country, but Boerne is already getting some national recognition for its Christmas spirit.

The City of Boerne has been named one of the 25 finalists nationwide in the Hallmark Channel’s 2026 Merriest Christmas Town contest, and the only Texas community on the list.

The public can vote for Boerne as the town that best captures the heart, wonder, and magic of the holiday season. You can vote once per day until Friday, Sept. 4.

Once voting closes, a panel of judges will evaluate each finalist town and select a winner based on:

The winning town will be named Hallmark’s Merriest Christmas Town and receive the opportunity to serve as a filming location for a Hallmark movie.

The recognition highlights what residents and visitors have long known: During the holiday season, Boerne’s combination of small-town charm, community traditions, and festive events can make a stroll through downtown feel like stepping into a movie.

“At the center of the celebration are the people who are part of our wonderful community,” Mayor Frank Ritchie said. “That sense of community is what has helped Boerne build a reputation as a Texas Hill Country destination throughout the holiday season.”

Among Boerne’s signature traditions is Dickens on Main, which transforms downtown during Thanksgiving weekend with live entertainment, holiday activities, and Victorian-inspired characters and decorations.

“What makes Christmas in Boerne so special is that it’s truly a community effort,” Visit Boerne Marketing Specialist Tori Bellos said. “Our role is to help visitors discover everything that makes Boerne unique while making sure our local businesses have the information and resources they need to welcome them.”

The celebration continues throughout the holiday season with Weihnachts Weekend, including the annual nighttime Weihnachts Parade, Kinder Fest, holiday markets, shopping events, and other festivities throughout December.

Boerne’s selection is about more than lights, decorations, and events.

“It is no mystery, a key component of the community’s Christmas celebration are the local businesses, volunteers, organizations, and residents who help bring the season to life each year,” said Kim Blohm, Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce president/CEO. “Our small business owners welcome visitors, neighbors share longtime traditions, and families gather along Main Street to create the kind of personal, small-town experience that has become synonymous with Boerne.”

Boerne doesn’t try to be the biggest holiday destination. Instead, the community has built its seasonal traditions around what makes Boerne special year-round: its historic downtown, locally owned businesses, Hill Country setting, and a welcoming spirit that invites visitors to feel like part of the community.

BOERNE, Texas - Some residents are raising concerns after noticing brown, discolored water coming from their taps, prompting questions about what is causing it and whether it is safe to drink.

Boerne Utilities said the discoloration is tied to flooding in June and July that increased the amount of naturally occurring organic material in Boerne City Lake, including “trees, dirt and plants.”

Laura Robinson said she first noticed the issue at her northern Boerne home Tuesday morning.

“I noticed that our toilet water was brown I cleaned the toilet cuz I was like this is disgusting and it still stayed brown And I was like okay, this is strange and then I drew a bath for my daughter and it was brown and I was Like okay, this is really interesting and different,” Robinson said.

Robinson said she also saw other residents posting about the issue online.

“I saw some photos on Facebook and some people's water looked like really gross,” she said.

Boerne Utilities said the discoloration is a natural process following the flooding and that the water is completely safe. Chris, speaking about the cause, said floodwater flowed into Boerne City Lake from Upper Cibolo Creek, bringing debris that is now settling.

“What we saw were several large flushes of floodwater into Boerne City Lake from Upper Cibolo Creek. And with that, there is just a lot of natural debris that was initially on the surface of the water that is now settling. But that is causing some of the discoloration we're seeing,” he said.

For residents seeing discolored water, Boerne Utilities recommends letting the water run briefly.

“Let it run for a minute or two and let it cycle through. If it continues, again, it is still completely safe. And hopefully within the next day or two, it'll continue to cycle out,” the utility said.

The city said the water was tested and meets safety requirements set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the EPA.

Robinson said even with assurances, she does not plan to drink the water if it is discolored.

“Honestly, probably not, but yeah, if it was brown at all I'm not drinking it, I don't think,” she said.

Boerne Utilities said the discoloration could continue on and off for a few weeks.

Boerne Little League defeated Ascension Parish Little League on Monday, winning the Southwest Region and punching its ticket to the Little League World Series … or so it thought.

What followed was a legal saga that left everyone where they already were, minus some legal fees and courtroom time.

Boerne's celebration was marred in controversy after a judge granted a temporary restraining order on another team — Tulsa National — in the Southwest Regional which was previously removed from the tournament due to a player-eligibility issue, per News4SanAntonio.com.

Early Monday, Little League International announced Tulsa National had been removed from the Southwest Regional due to using an ineligible player. That meant that the contest between Boerne and Ascension Parish would count as the championship, with the winner advancing to the Little League World Series.

Boerne won that contest 4-1, believing it had punched its ticket to the Little League World Series.

But Tulsa National challenged in court its disqualification, and a judge granted a temporary restraining order later Monday. The decision essentially put Tulsa National back in the Southwest Regional, setting up a championship game between Tulsa National and Boerne on Tuesday.

The court's decision, however, was basically ignored by Little League International, which said it has full authority over player eligibility and forfeits, per News4SanAntonio.com. A judge concurred, with Little League International announcing later Tuesday the court had dissolved Tulsa's temporary restraining order. The organization did show sympathy for the Tulsa players:

"We empathize with the children of Tulsa National Little League and the likely disappointment this decision has caused. We recognize how memorable the Little League experience is for all children and the critical role that parents and adult volunteers are entrusted with to ensure that every child is cared for, treated fairly, and afforded a safe and positive experience. We sincerely hope that those adults entrusted with operating the Little League program recognize the responsibility they bear toward the children in their care and act accordingly—with integrity, fairness, respect, and a commitment to the mission of the Little League program."

Even if Little League International supported the idea of a championship game between Boerne and Tulsa National, two significant logistical issues would have needed to be solved in the hours before the contest.

The first of which involved families from Boerne who left town after beating Ascension Parish in preparation of heading to Williamsport for the Little League World Series. The second revolved around how Boerne would be allowed to utilize its pitchers after using some of its best players against Ascension Parish on Monday. With Boerne believing that game was the championship, it didn't hesitate to use its best pitchers. Because of that, they wouldn't be allowed to use those pitchers against Tulsa National on Tuesday.

But none of that is going to happen. Boerne did not have to return to Waco to play against Tulsa National. Instead, Boerne will prepare to travel to Williamsport and take part in the Little League World Series.

The Little League World Series is set to begin Aug. 19, which doesn't leave much time for additional legal rulings and tournament changes.
