A new business park development is set to break ground in the Texas Hill Country this summer, and it could mean that your drive to a beloved city park might look a little different.

Developers will break ground on the 82,000-square-foot Freedom Place Business Park in June 2026, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). The project filing shows plans for seven shell buildings along Interstate 10 West, not far from Boerne’s beloved City Lake Park. The lake is a tourist hotspot, equally enjoyed by locals.

The new development could mean lakegoers might soon see site preparation, concrete slab foundations, and other building framework elements as they drive into the park. It also means that new business spaces and jobs are also on the way to the fast-growing Hill Country town.

Ben Briggs, who owns the upcoming flex-industrial business park, tells MySA that it will bring more space for trade companies, small businesses and office-based businesses. A representative for the Boerne-Kendall County Economic Development Corporation was not immediately available for comment.

"We're experiencing huge population growth, and demand for this type of small-bay flex-industrial is great, and supply is limited," Briggs said. "Everything between San Antonio and Austin is growing rapidly, and that includes up here in Kendall Country."

The Freedom Place business owner says the business park's name was inspired by he and his wife's Christian ministry work to aid human trafficking victims. Briggs says the bulk of profits from the business will go toward partnerships with human-trafficking charities.

Though it will be a short drive from the lake, Briggs says the project is an extension of the existing business corridor.

"Like all families in the Boerne area, my family has special memories enjoying the Boerne City Lake Park. We’ve designed our business park so that the entrance is along I-10, over a half mile from the entrance to the lake. We’ve kept the roof-line and building profiles low so that no part of the business park is visible from the lake area," said Briggs in a May 9 e-mail to MySA.

The upcoming business space will be set up along the I-10 corridor, adjacent to other business spaces. "Just as the scenic lake isn’t impacted by the hustle and bustle of traffic on I-10, Freedom Place Business Park will not have any impact on Boerne’s special lake," he continued.

Meanwhile, near by, at the 118-acre Lemon Creek Ranch development, contractors have put the finishing touches on a swanky new apartment building and are moving forward with additional housing developments. Construction crews at the upcoming Baptist Health System are also progressing through construction of the city’s first full-fledged hospital.

Located at 40225 I-10 W, Boerne, TX 78006, Freedom Place Business Park will be just two minutes away from the entrance of the park. The business development will look nice, Briggs said, with good signage and visibility right off the highway to help promote new Hill Country businesses.

Construction on Freedom Place Business Park is expected to wrap up in May 2027, though all TDLR filings are subject to change.

Boerne officials confirmed a measles case linked to Bandera County, tied to out-of-state travel. State agencies are actively conducting contact tracing and guidance.

BOERNE, Texas — The City of Boerne reports that a case of measles was officially reported by health personnel last week.

The city was notified on the afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, of a positive measles case. The city said state officials believe the case is isolated in nature and tied to a positive exposure in Bandera County. The Bandera County case was linked to out-of-state travel, a news release said.

The Texas Department of State Health Services is involved in the report and is offering strong guidance to Boerne's Emergency Management team. The agency is also offering guidance to healthcare providers. DSHS is also conducting the proper notification and contact tracing.

“We’re seeing outbreaks in different states in the U.S.," Dr. Jason Bowling, chief epidemiologist with University Health said. "With the amount of travel we have in the San Antonio area, it’s not surprising that we would see a case. In the past it was related to more travel in foreign countries. Now with the number of outbreaks that we’re having, we have 910 cases reported so far since January.”

Measles is highly contagious and can be dangerous, especially for babies and young children, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Measles symptoms typically begin 7–14 days after exposure with a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.

“Complications occur in about 30% cases, most common is diarrhea, you can get pneumonia from the measles virus itself," Bowling said. "You can get secondary bacterial infections. In rare cases you can get encephalitis.”

More than 750 cases of measles were reported by state officials during an outbreak that started in West Texas last year. The Texas Department of State Health Services declared that outbreak over in mid-August.

Measles was also reported at an ICE facility in Dilley, Texas, back in early February.

New hiking trails in the Texas Hill Country are taking shape. Progress on a highly anticipated 3,800-acre state natural area near Boerne is moving along quickly. One contractor behind the development's trail system says it's one of the most ambitious projects the company has worked on.

As the Albert and Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area in Pipe Creek, Texas, prepares to open by the end of 2026, MySA is learning new details on what recreational hikers, mountain bikers and trail users can expect to see.

Rock Solid Trail Contracting, one of the largest trail builders in the country, recently shared that the future trail space is its "most ambitious project ever" for a single build-out, according to Singletracks.com, a mountain biking news website.

In recent weeks, covered roadside directional signs have gone up outside of the future state natural area, officially marking the site. When MySA stopped by on Wednesday, February 25, construction crews appeared engaged in ongoing work. Although circulated Facebook posts showed the official road signs, they had been covered before MySA visited the area.

The company is currently building 25 to 30 miles of continuous, single-track trail space set to be built out over the next six to seven months. When the park opens in fall of 2026, it will offer special opportunities for camping, backpacking and hiking, with a little something extra. Adam Munich, Digital Marketing Coordinator for Rock Solid, shared with the outlet that a nearly 30-person crew is working on the trail network. A representative for the contracting company was not immediately available for comment.

Just before the start of the new year, Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine confirmed the latest details on exciting features coming to the state parkland.

The natural area will feature at least 28 miles of trail space — three of which will meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards — a 100-person amphitheater, a nature center, primitive camping sites, a vista point overlooking both Austin and San Antonio, as well as limited mountain biking trails.

Campers looking for sleeping accommodations can look forward to three dozen reservable options: cabins, screened shelters, traditional tent sites and backcountry camping.

The natural area, located near Boerne at 7690 Highway 46 West, Pipe Creek, TX 78063, has been in the works for several years and is expected to open this fall, with a special emphasis on conservation.

The park is home to a number of rare and endangered Hill Country species, including the golden-cheeked warbler, alligator lizard, sycamore-leaf snowbell, big-toothed maple, Boerne bean and Texas spring salamander. Albert and Bessie Kronkosky, the couple who owned the property, willed the land to the state to protect it from developers. The state acquired the land in 2011.

TPWD tells MySA that construction is progressing at the parkland.

"Trails are being built, buildings are up and being finished out, and staff are being hired. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is planning to open it in the Fall of 2026 and are quite excited to share the Albert & Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area with the public," a media representative told MySA in a written statement.

BOERNE, Texas – The City of Boerne confirmed a positive measles case was identified this month and believes it is linked to an exposure in nearby Bandera County, according to a city news release.

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads through coughing, sneezing or simply being near someone infected, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

The virus can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left, making it easy to contract in shared spaces.

Boerne officials were notified of the case Feb. 12, and believe it is “isolated in nature.” The city said it is likely tied to a positive exposure in Bandera County, “which is linked to out-of-state travel.”

The city said it is working with DSHS, which is working with local emergency management teams and healthcare providers.

DSHS is handling contact tracing and notification, the city said.

Earlier this month, at least two measles cases were reported inside an immigration detention center in Dilley, a city approximately one hour south of San Antonio.
