Crunch Fitness is preparing to expand its footprint in the San Antonio area, with a new location planned for 5536 Station Rd. in Schertz, according to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filings. The outpost will be a franchise-run gym, operated by the rapidly expanding local group The Undefeated Tribe.

“We are so excited to bring the Crunch Fitness brand to Schertz and offer premium and affordable fitness,” Tony Hartl, Founder and CEO of The Undefeated Tribe, told What Now San Antonio. “With world-class-equipment and amenities, round-the-clock hours and memberships that start at $9.99 per month, we can’t wait to open our doors to Schertz residents.”

Construction is expected to begin on the $11 million build-out this fall, with an anticipated opening in early 2027. JPlus Architects is listed as the design firm; the company also worked on another recent Crunch Fitness project in Texas, which opened in Conroe earlier this year, Zabalist reports.

Once complete, the fitness club is expected to feature approximately 30,000 square feet of space. Planned amenities include a Kids Club, Hot Studio, Group Fitness classes, Reform Pilates, Red Light Therapy, miles of cardio equipment, Olympic lifting platforms, and other premium offerings. The location will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with approximately 100 team members serving the community.

Started in 2018 in Austin, the franchise group recently celebrated its 50th Crunch location opening, and it has plans to double its unit count in the next few years. Brooke Chavez, Chief Brand Officer with The Undefeated Tribe, told What Now that broadening its reach to this area was a strategic choice.

“San Antonio DMA and surrounding areas represent a thriving market. Schertz has great demographics, and the population has a healthy growth rate. It represents a strong fit for our brand to bring a premium product at an affordable price. The Schertz community deserves a good fitness product,” she explained.

Construction is entering the final stretch on the more than 135,000-square-foot home improvement store, with "coming soon" banners now greeting drivers at Schertz Station.

Residents in one of the San Antonio area's fastest-growing communities are getting closer to a new place to pick up everything from lumber and power tools to paint and patio furniture. Construction on the new The Home Depot at Schertz Station has entered its final stages, with the exterior of the massive store now largely complete and a "coming soon" banner installed along a trailer outside the building.

A Home Depot spokesperson told MySA the new Schertz store is anticipated to open in early 2027.

The Schertz location is part of Home Depot’s broader expansion across the United States, according to the spokesperson The company said it opened three new stores in 2026 and plans to open 12 new stores across eight states, adding more than 1.6 million square feet of retail space.

"We're excited about all of the progress we've made in our stores. And our efforts are paying off. In 2025, our customer satisfaction scores increased every quarter, and our tenure with hourly associates is the highest it's been since 2017," Ann-Marie Campbell, senior executive vice president for Home Depot, said in a statement.

Near I-35 and Cibolo Valley Drive, the new store is part of the rapidly expanding Schertz Station development, which has attracted a growing list of national retailers and restaurants over the past year.

A recent visit to the site shows many of the retailer's signature features already in place, including a covered garden center, an outdoor lumber yard and a dedicated pickup area for online orders.

According to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the project includes a 107,519-square-foot Home Depot and a 28,113-square-foot garden center, totaling more than 135,000 square feet. The privately funded project carries an estimated construction cost of $13 million.

Construction began in October 2025 and was scheduled for completion by August 1, according to state records. All TDLR filings are subject to change without notice.

Once open, the store will become one of the largest additions to Schertz Station, the 72-acre mixed-use development anchored by EVO Entertainment. The project has emerged as one of the fastest-growing retail destinations along the I-35 corridor, with businesses including Portillo's, CAVA, Dave's Hot Chicken, Chipotle Mexican Grill and several others already open or under development.
