SEVEN POINTS–A landmark of Texas honky-tonk culture is preparing for a second act. The Cedar Creek Plowboys Club, once famous for its live music, dance floor and a starring role in the Academy Award-winning film “Tender Mercie,” will reopen this fall under the direction of Greg and Caroline Figueroa.The couple, whose experience in food and hospitality includes Fig’s Steak House and Fig’s Backyard in Tool, purchased the former Cedar Creek Brewery property at 336 E. Cedar Creek Parkway. Their plan is to honor the club’s legacy while giving the region a fresh destination for dining, dancing, and live entertainment.“We’re honored to bring back a place that means so much to this community,” Greg Figueroa said. “Plowboys will once again be a place to share good food, enjoy live music and make lasting memories.”A Landmark with a StoryIn the 1970s and early 1980s, Seven Points was known throughout East Texas for its lively honky-tonks. The Plowboys Club was a centerpiece of that scene and gained national recognition when Hollywood filmed “Tender Mercies” there in 1982–83.
