Fans of a cult-favorite fast food chain are ready to eat. The time is almost here for Central Texas residents to dip waffle fries in staple sauces and indulge in famous chicken sandwiches.

The excitement has been building for years, and that dream for Seguin residents is inching closer to reality as the town’s first Chick-fil-A continues to take shape. The $2.5 million, nearly 5,000-square-foot facility broke ground in May and now residents are eagerly awaiting the hottest new addition to the rapidly growing San Antonio-area city.

The Seguin Economic Development Corporation shared an update in July, noting, "construction crews are now constructing the walls on this much-anticipated standalone restaurant." A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing initially had January 2026 as the expected completion date, but now Seguin's EDC expects the Chick-fil-A to open before the end of the year, according to the post.

"Excited! Emilee Freeman wrote. "No more driving 20+ minutes for one of my fav food spots."

"My daughter is very excited for this," Olivia Garcia commented. "This is something I have watched the Seguin citizens ask for for years and it's finally happening! Thank you for this new addition!"

Viviana Luna added, "I won’t hate working in Seguin as much lol."

Some are already anticipating the lines on opening day for the fast-food chain, which was recently crowned No. 1 for customer satisfaction by the American Consumer Satisfaction Index.

But as the anticipation builds, the chicken wars are already heating up.

"Chick-fil-A is overrated fight me on this," Brenda Grimaldo commented.

John Fitz added, "whatever - won't find me there."

Chick-fil-A Seguin's Facebook page recently shared a post confirming the facility will include a play area for children. However, some locals weren’t celebrating, instead calling for other restaurants to come to town.

"How lame. Everybody excited for Chick-fil-A. Should have put a damn Popeyes Chicken, they ain't got nothing on them," Robert Perez shared on Facebook. Meanwhile, Manuel Gonzalez replied to Seguin EDC's post asking "When’s canes?"

The Popeyes and Chick-fil-A rivalry has been brewing since 2019, when the so-called "chicken sandwich wars" went viral. But the battle for chicken supremacy goes beyond those two chains as plenty of Texans are loyal fans of Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers.

While the chicken wars heat up, one thing is certain. Hungry Chick-fil-A customers will soon be able to get their hands on the original chicken sandwich and the unique Chick-fil-A sauce — just not on Sundays.

The city says it hopes the new Texas State Technical College will open in 3-5 years

SEGUIN, Texas – The Seguin Economic Development Corporation has acquired 133 acres of land to serve as the new site of Texas State Technical College (TSTC).

The new campus is expected to bring thousands of trade and manufacturing jobs to the greater San Antonio area.

“Seguin makes up almost 14% of the total manufacturing jobs in the entire San Antonio region,” said City Manager Steve Parker. “So, we’re a major player in this endeavor, and we worked really hard to make sure this comes to fruition”.

TSTC prioritizes helping students obtain certifications or degrees in fields such as building construction, manufacturing, HVAC, automation, industrial systems, welding and more.

Students typically complete degree programs in two years or less and receive a full tuition refund if they do not receive a job offer within six months of graduation.

“TSTC is the Texas cheat code,” says New Braunfels campus Provost Mike Anderson. “We work solely with industry; we reverse engineer everything from industry. So we look at what industry actually needs, we look (at) what their jobs are, what those skills are, and then we actually build our programs around what those needs are”.

Parker says that the Seguin area is booming, with seven new people moving to the city every day. He believes that growth can be achieved without the need for high-paying jobs, provided one does not attend a four-year university or incur expensive student loans.

“We’re a relatively poor community, but that trend has been changing over the last five years significantly, and we’re very proud of that. There’s been almost a 25% increase in income levels over the last five years, and that’s what changes people’s lives,” he said.

“One in three jobs in Seguin are actually tied to the manufacturing industry. And we continue to see interest from not only existing manufacturers in Seguin looking to want to expand their operations, but from new manufacturers that want to come in and establish themselves within our region as well,” said Seguin EDC Executive Director Josh Schneuker. Schneuker says with rapid expansion in town, neighbors will need high-paying jobs to vitalize the local economy while making Seguin a desirable place to live. “It can always be difficult in a rapidly growing community,“ he said. ”There’s a lot of development coming in, and you know, there’s always going to be mixed opinions on the development. But everything that I’ve seen related to this project and the announcement we made with the land acquisition and our plans for the property has been overwhelmingly positive".

While an exact timeline of plans is still being finalized, Seguin and TSTC anticipate that their campus will be fully built and operational within the next three to five years.

(Seguin) — A statewide initiative designed for Seguin took a major step forward this week as the Seguin Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) finalized the acquisition of a 133-acre property that will serve as the future home of Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Seguin. The campus will serve as a regional training hub.

The tract, located at State Highway 46 and Cordova Road, will be conveyed to TSTC at a later date, clearing the way for the construction of a new campus designed to meet the workforce needs of a rapidly growing region.

While parting with the land was not easy, Josh Schneuker, the executive director of the SEDC, says the family agreed to the sale with the belief that the project would leave a lasting mark on Seguin and beyond. has been in the Urban family for generations.

“We worked very closely with the family over the past year and it is always a difficult decision especially with a piece of property like this that goes back generations in their family and when we first sat down with the family and talked to them about this project, they immediately opened up to the opportunity of being a partner with us on it and it wasn’t about making money. It was about doing something that is going to better this community for generations to come and they wanted to be a part of that and that’s what makes this, I think, just extra satisfying is that we were all able to work together. We all have the same vision in place that we want to make Seguin, we want to make Guadalupe County and everywhere around us a better place. We really couldn’t have done it without the Urban Family – I am just so grateful to all of them – I guarantee to them that we are going to make them proud about what we are going to be able to deliver on site,” said Schneuker.

The SEDC and TSTC will work closely together to accomplish this transfer and bring the vision for the project to reality.

Schneuker says the acquisition fulfills a long-standing objective — TSTC’s planned expansion into Comal and Guadalupe counties, enabled by the 2023 passage of House Bill 4997, authorizes the college to operate by right in these counties. In December 2024, TSTC officially announced its plans to establish a permanent campus in Seguin, citing the region’s strong workforce demand and rapidly growing economy.

City officials say TSTC’s new campus will provide world-class training opportunities to support high-demand careers in advanced manufacturing, welding, industrial systems, engineering, health care, and emerging technologies.

TSTC Chancellor Mike Reeser also emphasized the importance of this milestone: “This acquisition is the foundation for a permanent campus in Seguin, which will allow TSTC to deliver on its mission of strengthening Texas with a highly skilled workforce. We look forward to partnering with the local leaders and industry to create opportunities that benefit students, employers and the entire region.”

Schneuker says the benefits of this new campus will extend far beyond Seguin’s city limits. With its central location along State Highway 46, he says the site is positioned to serve students and employers across Guadalupe and Comal counties, as well as the broader I-35 and I-10 corridors.

By aligning its programs with local industry needs, Schneuker says TSTC will strengthen the regional workforce pipeline and open new career pathways for students and residents alike.

He says this expansion further solidifies Central Texas as a competitive destination for investment, job creation, and long-term economic growth.

“By securing this prime piece of property, we are laying the foundation for a project that will transform the educational and workforce landscape of our community for generations. What better thing to do than bring in a technical college that is going to help provide skillsets for folks to get into high demand, high wage occupations, help grow our local economy by keeping our existing employers satisfied and helping to recruit new employers into our communities,” said Schneuker.

The project has been described as a collaboration across city and county lines. Key partners include the Seguin City Council, Guadalupe County leadership, the City of New Braunfels, the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation plus other regional stakeholders who have worked collectively to see this project through.

With the land now secured, Schneuker says SEDC will continue working with TSTC leadership and all partners on site planning and preparation for campus development.

Although construction isn’t expected to begin for a few more years, Schneuker says acquiring the land now should help accelerate the process and bring the center to reality sooner rather than later.
