BOERNE, Texas – The City of Boerne confirmed a positive measles case was identified this month and believes it is linked to an exposure in nearby Bandera County, according to a city news release.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads through coughing, sneezing or simply being near someone infected, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
The virus can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left, making it easy to contract in shared spaces.
Boerne officials were notified of the case Feb. 12, and believe it is “isolated in nature.” The city said it is likely tied to a positive exposure in Bandera County, “which is linked to out-of-state travel.”
The city said it is working with DSHS, which is working with local emergency management teams and healthcare providers.
DSHS is handling contact tracing and notification, the city said.
Earlier this month, at least two measles cases were reported inside an immigration detention center in Dilley, a city approximately one hour south of San Antonio.

BOERNE, Texas – The Boerne Independent School District is working to implement a new system designed to confront and stop suspected school shooters: drones.
Boerne ISD has teamed up with Austin-based Campus Guardian Angel to install the service at its campuses.
On Friday, the district and company are demonstrating how it will work on local campuses.
“I’ve grown so much to appreciate the concept now, but my initial reaction was no, this doesn’t make any sense,” Rick Goodrich, the district’s chief of safety and security, told KSAT in 2025.
The company said several other districts in Texas and Florida are planning to implement the system as well.

The system uses drone technology to get in the face of a suspected shooter within seconds.
KSAT Investigates visited Campus Guardian Angel’s Austin campus in October 2025 for a demonstration of how the system worked.
The company said the goal is for drones to confront a school shooter using loud sirens, flashing lights, pepper balls and even direct strikes in an effort to distract a threat.
“I’m gonna hit you at 60, 70 miles an hour,” Bill King, Campus Guardian Angel Chief Tactical Officer and co-founder, told KSAT in 2025. “It’s not gonna kill you. It’s like getting hit by a baseball bat.”
Trained pilots based in Austin will use virtual reality and cameras to navigate around campuses.
“The inspiration came originally from just looking at how incredibly effective small drones were against people with guns in Ukraine,” Campus Guardian Angel CEO and co-founder Justin Marston told KSAT in 2025.

A new speakeasy is on its way to the Texas Hill Country, and it's bringing a late-night option for locals.
Twelve to Twelve is Boerne's newest addition to the city's nightlife scene, offering sparkling cocktail drinks, curated music and a touch of Mexico City's dazzling cultural ambiance.
The bar will open on January 16, according to owner Patricio Penalosa, who is originally from Mexico City. Penalosa is a 35-year bar and restaurant industry vet and told MySA he's ready to bring his latest concept to Boerne, hoping it will offer something original for locals.
"Our focus is service. That's our main focus — the quality of our service. We want people to come and feel at home," Penalosa said. "A good drink with good music is what you want. We put all kinds of music. That's very important for me."
Located at 1491 S Main St, Boerne, TX 78006, near Pure Country BBQ & Grill, the bar will give residents a chance to sip and socialize past 9 p.m.
"There's a lot of places [in Boerne] that close [at that time]," he said.
The bar's name is a nod to its hours of service. Twelve to Twelve will operate from noon until midnight once it opens. The bar will eventually include expanded food options, with tacos and a food truck in the works.
Penalosa says customers will get to enjoy Boerne's local comforts with a dash of the international charm of his hometown.
"... Mexico City is one of the capitals of good food and good drinks," he told MySA.
The owner says the speakeasy will be cozy, with a back patio with tables outside and a spectacular view of the Hill Country's night skies.
